FWPCOT2254 & FWPCOT2273 Maintain Chainsaw &Trim and Cut Felled Trees

This  chainsaw course will cover maintenance, preparing and operating of hand-held chainsaws in a simulated work environment and defines the standard required to:  select, use, maintain and store suitable personal protective equipment;  carry out routine checks and maintenance on chainsaw;  apply appropriate chainsaw technique and cutting methods according to manufacturer’s specifications and documented low risk work procedures;  assess and minimise environmental impacts of chainsaw use;  maintain records of chainsaw training and certification, risk assessment and use. The course outcome will provide the student with the skills and knowledge to maintain chainsaw and safely cross cut fallen timber

    All persons assessed as successfully meeting the assessment criteria will be marked as competent and will be issued with an Australian nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency assessed

  • Course Requirements

    PPE students must be able to supply their own leg protection i.e chainsaw trouser/chaps as well as helmet with visor and ear muffs. Items can be purchased through TFT. Please note the location for the practical one day session is a simulated working environment (remote woodland) and consideration must be made with regards storing your food and water and suitable clothing e.g sun protection conducive for this environment. Theory: Students must have sufficient computer skills with a reliable internet connection to be able to undertake the online theory/written component. Students will be issued login details to the TFT Student Portal to access their online theory/written component of the course upon confirmation of enrolment which will include supporting student resource material/handbook.

    Method of Training

    Chainsaw course: Practical, demonstrations, instructions and online theory. A map detailing the practical venue and meeting location at Wacol will be issued upon enrolment.

    Method of Assessment

    Chainsaw course: Online theory. Face to face practical assessment

    Refresher/Update

    Recommended every 12-18 months
